Bangkok Joyride 1:

How We Became Superheroes

142 mins

This is not the story of protest leaders as Shutdown Bangkok gathered steam in 2013; the leaders are barely visible amid the multitudes.  These ordinary-become-extraordinary people are the stars of the film, which covers the pivotal period including the collapse of parliament, from July to 9 December 2013 with an immediacy of first-hand experience. No explanation, no opinion. If you missed it, you can now live it; if you were there, relive your memories. You might even be starring in the movie, since this is no legend of ancient kings but the contemporary heroism of ordinary people turned superheroes.

Bangkok Joyride 3:

‘Singing at Funerals’

136 mins

‘Singing at Funerals’, part 3 of the Bangkok Joyride saga of the epic Shutdown Bangkok protest, records the first 2 weeks of the occupation of Bangkok, 15 – 26 January 2014. From superstar academics Teacher Lily and Dr Seri Wongmontha’s hysterical impersonations of PM Yingluck on Art Lane, to the fatal bomb at Bantad-Tong; from a funeral march down Rama 4 road past Hualumpong railway station, to the government’s Centre for Peace and Order’s declaration of Emergency Rule, propelling ever more people to death-defying civil disobedience. As the endless literal strings of cash stream into the protest fund from the freedom-intoxicated multitude and the city becomes a vast camping ground, the government seeks help from its big brother Uncle Sam, protesters dance in front of the US embassy and the upset military begins to stir. The noodle cook-out at Asoke camp and the omlette being fried on Art Lane, as volunteers feed the masses, will leave you hungry.
